The Moab Monkeys are a group of hell-bent dreamers. Their Pentagon Space Net project took nearly 7 years to build and it finally recently came to fruition. Essentially, the Space Net allows for one to BASE jump from a handcrafted net that was suspended high above the desert in Moab, Utah. The trust these 25 people on the net had to have in the net's quality is scary to think about. But when he jumps through that hole, man is it something to see!
BASE Jump
Wingsuit jumping is gnarly enough on its own. When you add target into the equation and ask a jumper to hit it from thousands of feet up, however, then things become downright insane. Just ask the Project : BASE crew who set up a giant foam hand on the face of a mountain in the French Alps for one of the gnarliest high fives in human history. Needless to say, the precision this takes—highlighted by the speed with which the wingsuit pilot strikes the hand, practically obliterating it—is downright staggering.
Trying to handstand into a BASE jump when you can't do a handstand is probably not the best way to learn entry level gymnastics. Just ask this guy, who failed epically on the edge of some serious danger, taking a simultaneously terrifying and hilariously tumble into thin air. While the video doesn't capture it, he does get his chute pulled in time, but seriously man, got to Y and try this on some mats first.
Marc-André Denault is a professional skydiver, BASE jumper, and wingsuit pilot known for death-defying jumps around the world. Watch his best moments.
BASE jumper Marshall Miller has got some cajones. Watch him perform a practically blind jump into a foggy abyss (also known as a valley in this instance) in Lauterbrennen, Switzerland. can't tell if this is more terrifying or the BASE jumping off of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest peak in Africa and the only mountain in the world to contain five different climate zones) is a serious and dangerous undertaking for the even the most experienced mountaineers. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro only to BASE jump from the peak, however? Well, that's downright insane. Just ask Valery Rozov, who recently completed the first ever leap from "The Roof of Africa", ascending to 17,913 feet above sea level before beginning his one minute free-fall back to camp. If you're a fan of human accomplishment, this one is for you.
It feels crazy to say, but we've seen plenty of wingsuit jumps over the past few years, and while the novelty of watching a human being literally fly will never fully fade, it takes something special to really grab our attention these days. This jump, which captures Brandon Mikesell soaring through the stunning summer countryside in Switzerland, is exactly that. Maybe it's the multi-angle GoPro footage, the narrow crevice he zips through at the end, or perhaps its just the stunning scenery, but this one somehow feels completely fresh and totally insane. Check it out.
Cédric Dumont is not your typical crazy wingsuited man. He has a degree in Applied Sports & High Performance Psychology and is fluent in French, English, Dutch, German, and Spanish. So it's clear that he's got the mental capacity to take on insane stunts like making the first ever wingsuit flight over the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
We see our fair share of BASE jumping videos, and while they are all, by the very definition of BASE jumping, death-defying, Mark Broderick's latest leap might be one of the craziest yet. Sure, for a certified madman, scaling a massive comm tower somewhere in the middle of the desert is nothing new. Hell, even leaping from the top is old hat. But Broderick turns things up a notch, hucking 9 consecutive front flips from this steel pinnacle before finally pulling the chute. If this one doesn't give you a bad case a vertigo, then nothing will.
2014 was certainly a banner year in ridiculous BASE jumps. There's so much excitement we're just going to get right to the list below.
What do you get when you strap 50 tanks of helium and 90 giant balloons to a lawn chair and tell base jumper and all-around madman Erik Roner to climb aboard? How about the craziest web video of the day. The concept for Rockstar Energy's LIFTED is essentially a real world Up, but Roner unsurprisingly takes it to the next level, riding the contraption over a mile into the sky before pulling out a shotgun and blasting the balloons. After he runs out of ammo, Roner does what he does best, and leaps out into nothing. Trust us, this is just as insane as it sounds.
BASE jumping with Nitro Circus can lead to somebody's first or somebody's last. When Travis Pastrana is involved you know it's always going to be exciting no matter what. Watch Pastrana push Aaron "Wheelz" Fortheringham to do his first-ever BASE jump, despite being afraid of heights and water.
Then things go a bit wrong when Brandon Lillard has a BASE jumping accident with the crew. He ends up being OK, but the doctor discovered a genetic heart artery problem that wouldn't have been found through any other doctor. The doctor has given Brandon only 1 year to live unless he gets surgery. Go help him out with that at gofundme.com/ele2go. And wouldn't it be a bit ironic if a BASE jumping accident ends up saving his life...
The Flying Frenchies are apparently a group of adrenaline junkies who do crazy stunts like this. They're currently working on a movie, and this tease shows off the catapult BASE jump. Because BASE jumping wasn't crazy enough in itself, they had to add a catapult to start it off.

BASE jumping is crazy enough in itself. Yet, it seems there are always people piercing their parachutes to themselves or doing it off NYC's Freedom Tower to make things even crazier. John Van Horne may have one-upped everyone though and in the process became a legend.
Van Horne wanted to BASE jump from Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Tower, which stands at 1,381-feet at its highest point. But that would just be a normal old stunt. So he decided to land directly in a rooftop pool, making the greatest pool party entrance known to man. John Van Horne definitely earned serious legend status.

If you want to make the world's largest urban zipline you need some really tall buildings. You also need some parachutes, because you'll be going so fast that you can't possibly let yourself go all the way to the end of the zipline. Check out the latest Devin Supertramp video.

Erik Roner is a professional skier, accomplished BASE jumper and wing suit pilot, and card-carrying member of the Nitro Circus; all of which is to say, you want to watch what he gets up to. Lucky for you, Roner delivers monthly episodes of "Roner Vision," in which he skis down mountains you won't believe, flies (like, literally, actually flies!), and helps the likes of Travis Pastrana and friends jump school buses and backflip big wheels -- all while training his young son Oskar to someday take over the family business.

Professional skier, base jumper, and couch surfer Erik Roner takes us along on a trip to Snowbird, Utah—the mountain Erik got his start at as a pro skier. We learn the dos & don'ts of couch surfing, 2-year old Oskar Roner stomps his first ski base jump, and Erik gets down to work at Backcountry.com.
Professional skier Shane McConkey pushed the limits of possibility in big mountain terrain. As a friend and mentor to Erik Roner, his 2009 passing was a huge loss. Erik decided it was time to honor his friend by disposing of Shane's snowmobile in the only way that made sense—by BASE jumping it off an 800-foot cliff! With former pro snowboarder Jim Rippey in tow to help with the stunt logistics, Erik hits the road to Fernie, British Columbia and a massive cliff face. Watch as Roner pulls the throttle and pushes his own limits for Shane!

Professional skier and BASE jumper Erik Roner could only think of one way to pay tribute to his fallen friend and mentor, professional freeskier Shane McConkey, and that was by riding Shane's snowmobile off an 800-foot cliff! After long-lining Shane's old snowmobile up the cliff face via helicopter, Erik lined up the right trajectory, fired up the 2-stroke and throttled the snowmobile straight over the sheer cliff riding it way down before deploying his chute and floating free of the destruction. Shot completely on the GoPro HERO3 for a surreal first person experience! Drop in!

The Freedom Tower, also known as One World Trade Center is the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere at 1,792 feet and is set to open later this year. But people are already getting antsy to see the view from high above New York City. A New Jersey teen was recently arrested for sneaking to the top and taking a selfie (pics or it didn't happen). And now a video from September 30, 2013 has just been uploaded to YouTube that shows three BASE jumpers free falling from the top of One World Trade Center before deploying their parachutes and landing on the streets of lower Manhattan. This is guaranteed to get your adrenaline going.
The three BASE jumpers have been identified as Andrew Rossig, James Brady, and Marco Markovich. Kyle Hartwell kept lookout from the ground. At least two members have turned themselves in to the NYPD.

Shane McConkey is remembered as one of the best freeskiers and BASE jumpers of all time. But those who knew him best are quick to recall McConkey the prankster. With the documentary "McConkey" set to release in October, this clip captures the lighter side of the skier. McConkey was constantly looking for laughs and wasn't afraid of making himself look silly to get them. Whether it was a constant stream of poop jokes or blowing a rubber glove up over his head, McConkey constantly went "there."
He must have been really pissed that he didn't get to sit shotgun.
Sam Hardy is a dreadlocked BASE jumper. (The fact that he has dreadlocks isn't really that important, but I feel that whenever a white guy has dreads that he really wants that to be a big part of how people view him.) Anyways, Hardy just launched himself off of a 460-foot tall bridge from the top of a moving vehicle.
Dose was on the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival paying homage to Shane McConkey for the premiere of "McConkey," a feature length documentary about his groundbreaking career as a freeskier and base jumper. We spoke to J.T. Holmes, Shane's long time friend and fellow skier, wife Sherry McConkey and the directors about the massive imprint that Shane has left behind for generations to come.

Mountain bike riders Tim Moniot and Simon Robe hit a secret spot in Chamonix, France, and after snaking their way through some steep single-track, they find themselves on top of a cliff and have to take the only way down that they can.

The world's tallest man-made structure is the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai—not to be confused with Whiz Khalifa, the rapper. The Burj stands at 2,722 feet, cost $1.5 billion to build, and now two men have BASE jumped off of it. (They had permission, unlike those guys that illegally jumped off the Freedom Tower.) Professional skydivers Vince Reffet and Fred Fugen became the first individuals to BASE jump from the tippy top of the Burj Khalifa recently. Two daredevils illegally ascended the Burj Khalifa and jumped off in 2008, and another pair BASE jumped from the building with permission in 2010, but none of them leapt from the Burf Khalifa's pinnacle. That honor now belongs to Reffet and Fugen.

The lengths that daredevils will go to in search of adventure is constantly evolving. We've seen BASE jumpers leap off the world's tallest building in Dubai and off the Freedom Tower in New York City. Andy Lewis decided to combine two pursuits for his latest stunt. Lewis set up a slackline between two hot air balloons 4,000 feet above the ground and then marched across them. Then, since simply making it across isn't crazy enough, Lewis BASE jumped off the slackline.

Dean Potter is one of the premier adventurers of this generation. His rock climbing, slacklining, and wingsuit-BASE jumping exploits have brought him great acclaim. For his latest stunt, however, Potter is receiving a lot of criticism.
At the Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride, Potter unveiled a trailer for his short film When Dogs Fly that shows him doing a wingsuit BASE jump with his dog, Whisper, strapped to his back. Potter defended his actions on his blog, outlining the steps he took to insure Whisper's safety (goggles, harness, carabiners, climbing rope):
I want you all to know that I do not force Whisper to do anything she
doesn’t want to do. When we wake up in the morning, if Whisper wants
to stay at home or camp, she is free to do so. This has never happened
though and she always nips and yips at our heels and prods us to hop
to it and get going.Last summer when I was wingsuit BASE-jumping with Whisper she never
once didn’t want to come along. In fact, whenever I put on my wingsuit
or pack my parachute, little Whisper nestles close and begs to come
along.
That hasn't stopped people from saying that Potter's actions amount to animal cruelty. "What sort of sick person puts an animal at risk like that?" read one comment on YouTube. Another said, "I'm not one of those kooky animal rights types but why on earth would you do this? Dogs hate heights, and they hate falling. This is very selfish attention seeking behavior."

For wingsuit flyers like Clem Newell, Switzerland's Lauterbrunnen Valley is like the North Shore is to surfers. With 700-meter (2,300 foot) cliff walls and stunning views of the valley below, wingsuit flying has taken over as one of the more popular activities in the region with thrill seekers. Newell and his wingsuit partner Will Ostrick filmed multiple flights in the valley and the stunts they pulled off are simply jaw-dropping.

People are always trying to find new and improved ways to do things. It's called evolution. Sometimes there is a more efficient way to do something. But sometimes there isn't. This is mostly a case of it being less efficient.
Stanislav Aksenov was tired of the hum-drum operation of a parachute. I mean, who wants to have straps on their shoulders, a clunky chute on their backs, and have to pull a chord? Certainly not Aksenov. So he did the next sensible thing and pierced his parachute to his back. Because that makes things way easier and way less painful. You're a crazy one Aksenov, and we're not sure whether to dub you a genius or a nut-job. Either way, he was definitely thinking outside of the box.
