Well done, Sebastien Chardonnet
The nine-time world rally champion shaved more than 90 seconds off the previous mark.
Folks were impressed when Rhys Millen set a new record in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb last year with a time of 9 minutes, 46.164 seconds. Last week, they were blown away when Sebastian Loeb made Millen's mark look turtle-like with a time of 8 minutes, 13.878 seconds. Loeb drove a Peugeot 208 T16 through the 12.4-mile course ,which features 156 turns and rises 14,110 vertical feet.
World Rally Championship driver Evgeny Novikov crashed his Ford Fiesta into an old stone wall during the second stage of the Rally d'Italia Sardegna. With a smashed front end, battered windshield and a missing left rear wheel, it's pretty obvious that Novikov's rally is done. Although judging from his post-crash interview, it seems that Novikov may have been one of the last people to come to that realization.
